In short: the Royal Pop is a collaboration between Swatch and Audemars Piguet, unveiled on 13 May 2026 and sold in Swatch stores from 16 May. It takes the octagonal design language of the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak and turns it into a colourful 40mm Bioceramic pocket watch with a hand-wound Sistem51 movement. It comes in 8 models, on a lanyard, without a bracelet.
The heritage: the Royal Oak
In 1972, Audemars Piguet launched the Royal Oak, designed by Gérald Genta. Its octagonal bezel with visible screws and integrated steel bracelet made it one of the most recognisable luxury sports watches in history. More than fifty years later, that octagon is the starting point of the Royal Pop.
Swatch and the art of the collaboration
Swatch built its identity on colourful, accessible watches. In 2022, its MoonSwatch collaboration with Omega showed how a famous luxury design could be reinterpreted in Bioceramic at an accessible price, and created queues outside stores. The Royal Pop follows the same idea with another icon of Swiss watchmaking.
The launch in May 2026
The Royal Pop was unveiled on 13 May 2026 and went on sale in Swatch stores on 16 May, at around €385 to €400 depending on the market.
A pocket watch, not a wristwatch
The biggest surprise was the format. The Royal Pop is a pocket watch, delivered on a lanyard, with no bracelet. Two layouts exist: Lépine, with the crown at 12 o'clock, and Savonnette, with the crown at 3 o'clock. Inside is a hand-wound Sistem51 movement with a power reserve of about 90 hours.
The 8 models
| Model | Main colour | Matching bioceramic bracelet |
|---|---|---|
| Otto Rosso | Red | Red |
| Huit Blanc | White | White |
| Green Eight | Green | Green |
| Blaue Acht | Dark blue | Dark Blue |
| Lan Ba | Light blue | Light Blue |
| Otg Roz | Pink | Pink |
| Ocho Negro | Black | Black |
| Orenji Hachi | Orange | Orange |
Most names pair the word "eight" in a different language with a colour, a nod to the octagon. See our colour guide for contrast combinations too.
Why bracelets followed
Many owners wanted to wear their Royal Pop on the wrist. That created a market for bracelets and cases made for its 40mm case. Royal Pop Style was born from that demand: bioceramic bracelets matched to the 8 colours, silicone and FKM straps for sport, and stainless steel case kits that turn the pocket watch into a wristwatch.
